Welcome to Jireh's Closet

Well hello! I'm so glad you dropped by. My name is Jennifer, and I am about to embark on a whole new adventure. I'm inviting you to join me. I've been going to garage sales and thrift shopping for decades. Who doesn't love finding a bargain for a fraction of the cost at local stores? Oh I know, there are some people who only buy new, but I am definitely not one of those people.

Let me tell you a little about myself. I have three grown children, a granddaughter and a grandson on the way. A couple years ago, I remarried a widower and added on his three grown children, 7 grown grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren, with one more on the way.

To say we are a unique couple is an understatement but with a thirty-one year age difference we definitely raise a few eyebrows. Most people would assume I married older because of money, but that is definitely not the case. We are pastors and share a meager salary from a small local congregation. I am a retired registered nurse in addition to being a pastor.

To increase our income and to get something in place should the circumstances of life throw us a curveball, I have started thrifting and upselling as a means of income. I am a firm believer in multiple streams of income and have always had businesses on the side most of my adult life.

I love finding and flipping and seeing how much profit I can make from things people don't want anymore. My good friend Micheline also buys and flips and has been an inspiration to me getting started on this journey. My brother Jeff, has been selling and flipping for years and inspiring me with stories like the train set he got at an auction for $100 and sold for $850 on eBay.

I left nursing because of the stressful workplace environment that was wreaking havoc on my physical and mental health. I have always preferred to be my own boss, set my own hours and create my own income. This flipping and upselling adventure is just another way I can have freedom and flexibility in my life while I still create revenue to pay bills and live from.

I would be remiss if I ended this first post without explaining to you the reason that I chose the name Jireh's Closet for my business. You see, I am a firm believer that God provides for all my needs. Jehovah Jireh is the name used in the Bible that means God, my Provider.

When I married David, I also inherited a 100 year-old farmhouse that we live in together. It is stuffed to the gills with treasures that have accumulated over 80 years. Some of the items here were purchased as antiques by my husband and his late wife, Marilyn, and others came from their parents' homes when they died. Every time I open a closet, take a trip to the cellar, or climb the ladder to the attic, I am surrounded by things that we no longer need or use but could be a blessing to someone else.

As I try to simplify our life, I am seeing God provide for our needs as we sell off many of these treasures, often found in our own closets. Recently, we came through a month where the church was unable to pay our salary, but God still covered every bill through our multiple streams of income. That month, I was encouraged to give this buying and flipping adventure more of my attention.
